Volunteer and Make a Difference
‘A‘ohe hana nui ke alu ‘ia. (No task is too big when done together by all.)
Ancient Hawaiian Story of the Bowl of Light:
Each baby is born with a Bowl of Perfect Light. If the child learns to tend this light through respect and love, he/she will grow in strength and health. However, if the child is consumed with thoughts of doubt, judgment, anger, resentment, envy, or jealousy, a stone will be dropped into the Bowl of Light with each negative action or thought. Some of the light will be extinguished each time because light and stone cannot occupy the same space. If the child continues to heap stones into the bowl, the light will eventually go out, and the child will become a stone, no longer able to grow. However, as soon as the child grows tired of being a stone, all that is needed is to forgive this aspect of him or herself, and turn the bowl upside down so the stones fall out. All the light then shines again and may grow even brighter than before.
You Can Help
Sometime, children, adults, families, lose their light. Agencies such as MFSS work to help restore it through personal and family strengthening, but we can’t do this alone. We too need help. Please consider volunteering to assist us. Opportunities are available to assist with Clerical, Phone Work, Special Events, or Child Development Centers.
