MFSS Disaster Relief Childcare Subsidy Assistance
Maui Family Support Services, Inc. has funds available from the American Red Cross to assist families in paying for childcare.
If you need childcare assistance and meet the criteria below, please complete the Eligibility Screen at the link provided. Note that you’ll need to provide with your application documentation verification of your status as affected by the 2023 wildfires.

Absolute Priority Requirement
Applicants MUST provide confirmation of Fire-Affected status via one of the following:
- Documentation from FEMA or the American Red Cross confirming your status as a victim of the 2023 wildfires.
- Documentation from a recognized Maui community organization on official letterhead confirming your status as a victim of the 2023 wildfires.
Additional Eligibility Criteria
- Employment/Education Requirements: Parent(s) must be working, attending school, or enrolled in training for at least 20 hours per week, or need childcare to pursue work, school, or training.
Income Eligibility
- For Qualifying Employers: If a parent works for one of the following, the income limit is set at 150% of the State Median Income:
- County of Maui
- Department of Education
- Healthcare Provider
- 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization
- Early Childhood Program

Application Process – Families deemed potentially eligible through the screening will receive an application.
- Applications must demonstrate a need for assistance based on both income and expenses.
- Families not receiving any other childcare subsidy will be prioritized. However, families with existing subsidies whose copayment exceeds 7% of their Net Income may still be considered.
- Applications must be completed in full, per the provided instructions, with all requested documentation submitted as directed.
- Verification of fire affected status, income, work hours, employer, and expenses is required to confirm eligibility.
- Full bank statements will be necessary as part of income and expense verification.
